Liverpool FC Transfers by Manager

Transfers between clubs have always happened and some make a bigger impact than others. It is arguable of course who is the most success. Is this down to club success at a bargain price such as Kenny Dalglish who cost a mere £440,000 from Celtic and then went on to play for the club for many years and then carried on to win as a manager of the club as well.

Of course not every transfer is a success of course and there are a fair few players down the years who we all wish had never taken place. Sean Dundee for example came in for £2 million and just never got a piece of the action really due to his poor quality.

Transfer fees have gone up over the years as the money has poured into the game but the Reds have produced a fair number fo players through their own ranks. Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Trent Alexander-Arnold all cost nothing in transfer fees. Tommy Smith and Phil Thompson were the same as well.

Fees though have continued to rise in terms of outgoings and the Reds have spent an amazing £85.3 million in one deal for Darwin Nunez (this figure includes add on's). This is a long way since the Reds even broke the £1 million pound barrier. That barrier was only broken in July 1987 when the Reds well and truly smashed it by spending £1.9 million on Peter Beardsley from Newcastle United.

The first time the Reds received more than a million for a player was in July 1986 when they received £3.2 million from Juventus for Ian Rush. The fees received these days has now escalated up so much that the biggest fee received was £142 million (this figure includes add on's) for Philippe Coutinho when he went to Barcelona.
