Liverpool manager Arne Slot has named a 28-player squad for the start of the club's pre-season tour of the United States, with a friendly against Real Betis in Pittsburgh scheduled for Friday.
The Reds had as many as 14 players on international duty at Euro 2024 and the Copa America, with most reaching the knockout stages of those competitions. So far, only Andrew Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai and Vitezslav Jaros have reported back due to group stage exits.
With the addition of Robertson, the group Slot flew with is pretty much the same as that which was narrowly beaten by Preston North End in a behind closed doors friendly last week. The Championship side scored their solitary goal in the second half, by which time first-teamers like Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott and Szoboszlai had gone off.
Goalkeepers Caoimhin Kelleher and Marcelo Pitaluga have also joined the squad since then.
It is hoped that Alisson and Diogo Jota, whose countries were knocked out of their respective tournaments at the quarter-final stage, will link up with the Reds while still on tour. It remains to be seen when those who reached later rounds – including Trent Alexander-Arnold with England and Alexis Mac Allister with Argentina in finals on 14 July – will be available.
Having also faced Arsenal on 31 July, Liverpool's final tour game is against Manchester United on 3 August, after which point they will fly home for one final warm-up against Sevilla on 11 August.
